MEDUSA
Medusa was the sole mortal of the monstrous Gorgons, beheaded by Perseus. She had the power of turning anyone who looked upon her into stone. Perseus avoided to look at her by using his shield when he chopped off her head. Pegasus was born of Medusa´s body.
ICARUS
The fairy tale hero Daedalus built the labyrinth on Crete for King Minos, who then captured both father and son. They tried to flee but Icarus dared to fly too near the sun and plunged to his death in the sea.
ZEUS
Supreme god of the Olympians. Father of Perseus and Heracles, and married to his sister Hera. Zeus was ruler of the sky and his brother Hades ruled the Underworls and his brother Poseidon ruled over all fresh and salt waters. Zeus's Roman name was Jupiter.
THESEUS
Greek hero and slayer of the Minotaur, managing to find his way out from the labyrinth with the help of a ball of yarn given to him by Ariadne. Tried to capture Persefone, the queen of the underground.
MILKY WAY
The Milky Way is formed by the light from thousands of stars. According to the mythology it originated when Hera pulled away little Heracles from her breast because he sucked too hard, and the divine milk spread over the sky.
OIDIPUS
King of Thebes who unknowingly killed his father and married his mother, as the oracle of Delfi had predicted. When he realized this, he poached his own eyes and fled into exile.
THE JUDGEMENT OF PARIS
Paris was the prince of Troja, who ranked Aphrodite as the winner in a beauty contest. The trophy was that he could kidnap the beautiful Helen, which caused the Trojan war. Paris died in this war.
NARCISSUS
Handsome young man who was caused to fall in love with his own reflecting picture in a pool for breaking the heart of the nymph Echo. Narcissus languished beside the pool, dying from excessive self-love and beneath him a narciss started growing.
HYPNOS
In the Greek mythology Hypnos was the god of dreams.
KRONOS
Chronos was a titan and the father of Zeus, who usurped Chronos as ruler of cosmos, as had been predicted. Chronos tried to avoid the prediction by eating his children. But when Zeus was born his wife Rea gave him a stone to eat instead of the newborn son. When Zeus overthrew Chronos, the Giants became enraged, attacked Mount Olympus and almost defeated the gods. Chronos is also identified with the Greek word for time, chronos.
ATHENE
Olympian goddess of arts, sciences and war; patron goddess of Athens. Athene was born from Zeus's head and was originally the Great Goddess in the form of an owl. She aided the heroes in their quests.
