SALVADOR DALÍ - MYTHOLOGICAL FANTASIES
The exhibition shows graphic works, litographies, gouaches and gilded sculptures from the Didrichsen Art Museum and private collections. Video shows, guided tours and excerpts from the Dalí opera complete the exhibition.
The most important series in the exhibition is the famous Mythology-series, which is being shown very seldom as a complete set. There are 16 large graphic sheets in the series picturing Dalí´s own visions of the Greek mythology. He shows, among others, Chronos eating his children, the goddes Athene accompanied with a huge fallos, and how Milky Way originates from the divine milk of a woman´s breast.
Other series on show are Yellow Amours, with thick layers of gold giving a special effect, and Venus in Furs, with hairy women. The sculptures in the exhibition show the Giraffe woman, The Space Elephant, The Bird Man, The Woman with a Rose Head, Woman Aflame, Alma del Quiote and Alice in Wonderland. Dalí products - literature, perfumes and other Dalí items available in the museum shop.
There are 14 Dalí works from the Didrichsen Art Museum on show in the exhibition, of which the Sand Man gouache is the most unique.
