The Ensign and the Sea from 1992 is one of the few series of paintings with a maritime motif. The paintings are inspired by cruises on the Dannebrog, and they are hung in pairs in the ship's dining saloon. Two of the pictures are entitled Summer Cruise and are colourful abstracts inspired by cruises in Danish waters in sunlight and fair weather with the Dannebrog flying astern. Another couple of paintings entitled Northward Bound take their point of departure in the more steely grey colours and violent seas of the North Sea.
