INSPIRED EXPLOSIONS

The Didrichsen Art Museum is arranging the exhibition Inspired Explosions from March 8 to May 11, 2003. The exhibition presents for the first time in Finland Lithuanian Colourism from the 1970s to the present.

The development of Lithuanian art in the 20th century is closely linked to the country´s eventful history, from its previous period of independence to the years of Soviet censorship and the regaining of independence in 1990.

The art works in the exhibition have been chosen by Viktoras Liutkus, prominent Lithuanian art historian. Through the works of 14 Lithuanian artists, the exhibition illustrates the special nature and the different ways in which artists have approached the potential of colour.

The Didrichsen Art Musuem has published a book on Colourism in conjunction with the exhibition, available at the museum shop or through internet.
