Sculptor Laila Pullinenīs anniversary year exhibitions
Sculptor Laila Pullinenīs exhibitions with different themes will be arranged in three different places in Finland. The main exhibition will be held at the Didrichsen Art Museum on May 16 - August 31, 2003.
The Didrichsen Art Museum is presenting Pullinenīs portraits for the first time ever. This collection is not known to the public. Laila Pullinen is foremost known as an informalist with a tendency to abstracting her motive. Nevertheless, Pullinen has during her whole artistic career, been sculpting portraits as well. The portraits represent many prominent persons, who have greatly influenced the artist, such as President Urho Kekkonen, Composer Jean Sibelius, as well as fellow artists.
Drawing has throughout Pullinenīs career been an important counterweight to sculpting, and she herself considers both of them equally important. The human form acts as a starting point, through which an event or a movement is perceived. The soul and spirit of the person is really what is peing portrayed - this takes precedence over exact figurative representatiion.
