ART AND SPIRITUALITY
Art can give a form to the supernatural, depict the intangible world or bring forth a religious experience. Throughout the ages, cultures of the world have illustrated their beliefs and myths – with depictions of gods, angels or even monsters.
The modern age in Europe has allowed art to become more secular. However, art, which has broken away from religion and denominations, has not lost its connection
with the spiritual. Artists have often emphasised the search for spirituality, for a “higher consciousness”.
The selection of works on display from the Didrichsen Art Museum’s collection is an excursion into the relationship between art and spirituality.
