5.9. Milla, museomestari

​

Haluaisin nostaa näillä museon juhlaviikoilla esiin yhden suosikkiteokseni kokoelmasta. Se on Eduardo Chillidan Sur Bois (1969). Teos on pieni, yksivärinen grafiikanlehti. Mikä tässä nyt sitten sykähdyttää?

Teos on ollut lähivuosina muutamaankin kertaan esillä . Sitä on ripustettu rinnastumaan mm. katutaiteen graafisen ilmaisun ja toisaalta jälkimodernin, abstraktin kuvanveiston kanssa. Pidän teoksesta, koska se on niin monipuolinen: pelkistyneisyydestään huolimatta siitä löytyy visuaalisia yhtymäkohtia useaan suuntaan. Tai ehkä juuri sen takia?

Chillidan teoksen nimi Sur Bois on ranskaa ja tarkoittaa suomeksi puulle tehtyä. Termiä käytetään kuvanveistossa, maalaustaiteessa ja taidegrafiikassa kertomaan teoksen valmistukseen käytetyistä materiaaleista: esim. huile sur bois tarkoittaa ”öljy[maalaus] puulle”. Gravure sur bois tarkoittaa puukaiverrusta. Tämä teos on puupiirros, ts. puulaatalta vedostettu kuva. Abstraktina sen pinta ei viittaa mihinkään tässä maailmassa, ja nimensäkin kertoo ainoastaan tekniikan. Pinta kyllä paljastaa taltan jäljet ja hieman puunsyytä. Muutoin, se on niin moderni kuin moderni teos voi olla: se viittaa vain itseensä. Ahh!

2.9.2025 Jenny Didrichsen

My name is Jenny Didrichsen, and I am the granddaughter of the Didrichsen Art Museum’s founders. The museum has always been an essential part of my life – in fact, it was even my very first home! I have been involved in its activities since childhood, and today I serve as a member of the foundation’s board.

 

Since 2020, I have been producing the museum’s podcast series. The very first episode tells the story of the museum, while the following ones explore our exhibitions and collections.

 

Tomorrow we are launching a brand-new episode about the Maya civilization, linked to our pre-Columbian collection. The episode is titled ’The Maya Mystery’ and features an interview with world-renowned Maya expert and archaeologist Arthur Demarest.

1.9.2025 Peter Didrichsen

​

My name is Peter Didrichsen and I am the son of the Didrichsen Art Museum founders Marie-Louise and Gunnar Didrichsen. The museum was opened exactly sixty years ago today, on September 1, 1965. 
 
At the time, I was 14 years old and sold tickets to our very first visitors. The museum was open for two hours, tickets cost two Marks, and 200 people came. Later, I worked as Museum Director for 28 years, for as many years as my father. Since 2020 my wife Maria has continued this work as director. 
 
Today we are celebrating the museum and I wish you all welcome to join the festivities!

1.9.2025 Maria Didrichsen

​

My name is Maria Didrichsen and I am the Director of the Didrichsen Art Museum. 

My first encounter with the Didrichsen Art Museum was as a 16-year-old in 1975, when my mom took me to see a very popular exhibition of Reidar Särestöniemi. I was impressed by both the art and the atmosphere of the museum. I could never have imagined then that I would later marry Peter, the founders’ son, begin working here in the 1990s, and eventually have the privilege of leading the museum. It has been a wonderful journey, and I feel deeply grateful for the legacy Marie-Louise and Gunnar Didrichsen left to us all.

Today, on September 1st, we celebrate the museum’s 60th anniversary. Admission is free, and the first 300 guests will be welcomed with coffee and cake. I warmly invite you to join the celebration!
